The chime array for the Swirl is shipped completely assembled. All that needs to be done is for the three eight foot long posts to be attached to the instrument frame and for the instrument to be mounted into the ground.
Attachment screws are provided with the instrument. Each post is marked A B or C to correspond with the post sockets on the instrument back. There are pre-drilled holes in the post sockets and instrument back that correspond to holes in each post. The shorter screws are for attaching the posts to the post sockets and the six large screws are for attaching the posts to the instrument back. The enclosed photo shows the screws, post and socket arrangement. Simply lay the instrument on a padded surface, chimes downward, and fit the angled ends of the posts into their receptacles and screw the posts on. Screws are supplied with the instrument.
The posts are mounted into three holes dug on 20 inch centers. We recommend a depth of three feet for these holes in areas where frost heaving is a consideration. Otherwise, you can shorten the posts and use a two foot depth. Holes are recommended to be eight to ten inches in diameter. Once the holes are dug, which can be done either with a manual post hole digger or a motorized auger, the instrument posts can simply be lowered into the holes and braced vertically prior to filling with concrete.
The mallets for the Swirl are attached to the instrument frame. Should you want to shorten the mallet cables, it is a simple matter to extract the screw which holds the cable in place, cut the cable and reattach the cable to the instrument frame.
